The Modern Macramé Studio
As you may know by now, Modern Macramé is a bustling one-stop online shop for all your fiber art needs. The company operates out of the artist studio of our founder, Emily Katz, in Portland, Oregon. Her first studio was in the spare bedroom of her 1906 Craftsman house, but quickly outgrew it and we moved into this current location in June of 2014.
Originally the space was shared with Adam, Emily's then boyfriend (now fiancé) and his screen printing business. Modern Macramé was expanding and fortunately didn't have to move when Adam began working for an interior designer. The company took over the whole studio.
The space has evolved to be a home for the jungle of plants, a books' worth of projects tried and true, an office to the Modern Macramé team and our many dogs, an airy showroom, and a hosting site for a variety of events.

Original warehouse windows pour natural light into the lofted space which is essential for crafting in the Pacific Northwest. Textiles, baskets, and beautiful objects from all over the world collected by Emily's travels adorn the walls, serving as guidance and inspiration. Traces of collaborations with other artists are noticeable from years of making, and the space to make anew is possible! We're grateful to call this place home.
