Fiber Artist Feature: Mindy Ehret
While Modern Macramé originally began as a macramé rope distributer and pattern resource, it's now evolved into a multi-disciplinary fiber art supply company. While our team has been exploring new ways to use our products for handicrafts like crochet, fiber artist and Modern Macramé customer Mindy Ehret has been busy at work weaving with our 2mm cotton string.
Based in the foothills of the sunny beach town of Ventura, California, Mindy is a fiber and textile artist specializing in boldly woven geometric and floral designs that are created to be displayed on the frame looms on which they are woven.

Mindy is influenced by print and pattern designs of the 1960’s and 1970’s as well as her travels around the world. In her art pieces, Mindy likes to explore creating dimension in her pieces with the direction and colors of the woven fibers.
Mindy has always been drawn to the planning and prep that goes into this type of weaving. Since each color of string is woven as a continuous piece one must completely map out the design before creating or undo it to make a change in the design once the weaving has started.
For Mindy, this calls for an absolute need to prepare for each piece well before any yarn is even selected. The journey that ensues from problem solving at the beginning to adjusting each string in the end for perfect placement, yields a creative process that is rewarding and beautiful at the same time.
Prior to her creation of Mindy Ehret Studio, Mindy led the Product Development team for the high-end baby brand, Petunia Pickle Bottom, for over 15 years. She owes much of her process and appreciation of quality and what it takes to create that to her time there. Additionally, her travels throughout Asia, Europe and the USA are continuously influencing both pattern and color in her work.
