Our Book features 33 projects for your handmade home. In this weekly series, we are featuring each project from the book - you will learn a bit about the behind the scenes as well as the best materials to use to make your macramé projects.

Rope Swing DIY Macramé Project

...if ever there was a project that called for some extra whimsy, this is it.

We shot this at Lightlab in LA, ran by Caroline, Jayden, and Anne. They also hosted our LA launch party after the book came out! The rugs are from Coco Carpets, and completely made the shot.

If you want to make a macramé rope swing of your own, you will need:

4 bundles of rope or cut from a spool

wooden board - it does not need to be a perfect rectangle, or even made of wood, just make sure it is strong enough to safely hold the weight of an adult in motion!

2 large brass rings - 3-5" size coming soon to our online shop! You will want to make sure the rings are sturdy enough to hold you, and make sure to ask at your hardware store about the safest materials needed to install the swing in your home.

1 swivel clip

This pattern is made using a variety of knots including the Lark's Head Knot, Half Square Knot, and Square Knot. You can learn how to make these, and more knots and techniques, on our Youtube Channel!

This swing is designed to be hung at a height of 10'. For lower ceilings, adjust the length of the spiral accordingly. To avoid running out of rope before you are finished, be sure to maintain even knot spacing as you work. Take a minute to measure and count your knots periodically, and adjust them as needed.

We made one of these using driftwood and gray rope. Play around with the material to make it your own!
