Bermuda Color Story

Modern MacrameAugust Knot Along - Bermuda Portal Wall Hanging Pattern

Welcome to the Bermuda Color Story!

Over at Modern Macramé, we love to travel. Learning about new cultures is such a wonderful way to expand your horizons and find inspiration. This month, we wanted to share this fun pattern to make and enjoy in your home, as well as launch our first Color Story.

We picked Bermuda as the first place to feature, a mystical island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Emily visited there in January of 2019 with her friend and maid of honor in her wedding, and drew inspiration from the color of the water at Horseshoe Bay, the playful doorways of St. George, and the vibrancy and local flavor.

Read on to explore along with Emily.

Modern MacrameAugust Knot Along - Bermuda Beach Peach Rope + Mint String

My friend Anne and I traveled to Bermuda in January to soak up some sun, after flying to NYC to try on wedding dresses for my September wedding!

We picked Bermuda, because it sounded exotic, and warm. It was off season, so the whole trip was cheap too. $600 each for our flights and 4 nights hotel.

We arrived and settled in at night, and the next morning set off. It was not quite as warm as we had hoped, but we were grateful for the change of scenery.

Something that intrigued me, was how the colors of our rope and string already naturally reflected many different parts of the landscape. Our Peach 5mm rope, (above Left), and our Mint 3mm rope (above right) mirrored the colors found on this quiet beach.

Since it was Bermuda's off season, it meant that things were VERY quiet. When we went down to breakfast, we were nearly the only people at all at the resort.

The temperature was pretty chilly for our idea of a tropical island. We had hoped for swimming and sunbathing, a respite from Portland gray and rainy winter. What we got was 65 degree days. We were still determined to swim, and every local that heard of our plans thought we were crazy! But the beaches that we visited were gorgeous, if a bit chilly.

My friend Anne and I took the city bus to St. Georges, and had a coffee at Victoire Cafe.

We had delicious coffee, and made new friends along the way.

On the final day of the trip, we visited the Crystal Caves.
Since it was off season, I literally had the place completely to myself!
